The Soča Valley is one of the fastest growing tourist destinations in Slovenia. Once unknown by a lot of travellers, it’s now bursting with busy campsites as outdoor enthusiasts flock here to wonder at the Emerald river and soak up mountain vibes. There is tons going on and these are my top special activities and events that ensure you make most of the valley.

Activities

There are loads of outdoor companies in Bovec and Kobarid thaat offer bike rental, white water rafting, kayaking and canyoning but if you’re looking for something a little different then check these out.

Yoga on the Kanin
Outdoor yoga in this valley is pretty special as it’s backdrop is basically awesome views of the tree covered mountains or the Soča river and Lindsey from AdZENtures Yoga has found another great location for some truly zen mountain yoga. Every sunny Sunday she takes yogis up the Kanin cable car to find a magical spot for an hours yoga. The views are breathtaking and totally puts the zen into adzenture. Tickets cost €25 which includes 1 hour of yoga and a return ride of the cable car. More information is available here.

SUPing at Most na Soci
One of the newest activity companies in the Soca Valley is SocaSUP located at Modrej beach near Most na Soci village. The damned Soča river creates a beautiful wide expanse of river making it seem like a turquoise lake. It’s calm waters and beautiful serene views make it the perfect place to SUP and from there you can paddle up to Tolmin or down past confluence of the Idrijia where there are some gorgeous, hidden canyons. It’s a great place to escape the crowds of Bovec and Kobarid and find some peace and quiet.

Festivals & Live Music

Punk Rock Holiday 1.9, Tolmin
Back for its 9th year, this is one of the biggest punk gatherings in the world. The line up is this year is particularly amazing including NOFX, Frank Turner and Less Than Jake. There are loads of vegan food options at this festival which makes it perfect for good music, tasty eats and lots of beer. Tickets (if there’s any left!) are available here and it all kicks off on 6th August in Tolmin. 

Overjam International Raggae Festival, Tolmin
At the same site as Punk Rock Holiday, but a week later is the more chilled out, slowed down festival. This beautiful raggae festival has international acts like Alborosie and Israel Vibration and lots of other dub and raggae acts which you can boogie to all night long. Other special features are the children’s workshop area, hula hooping zone and dreadlock hairdressers. If you’re also wanting to travel to this festival without carrying a tent, then KarTent tents are available which is a great eco alternative to cheap plastic festival tents. Tickets are available here and the festival starts on 15th August.

Summer Live Music Nights, Bovec
A stage is set up in the centre of Bovec where live music takes place every Thursday and Friday night. The road through the town centre is blocked off to pedestrians.
