Better late than never! I didn’t manage to make it to Punk Rock Holiday this summer as we had tickets for Kendal Calling, but I couldn’t let the year go by without sharing my love for what has to be our favourite festival in Europe. If you know, you know – Punk Rock Holiday isn’t just a music festival, it’s an experience and one that’s deeply tied to the stunning location on the Soča River. Having once lived in the area, it always feels like coming home when we return.

The Road Trip & Arrival
This year’s journey was a sweaty road trip from Morzine through Italy in the blazing August heat. Once we arrived, reality hit: Punk Rock Holiday is definitely becoming more popular! Back in 2017, the campsite was practically empty. This time around, the field was almost packed to the cemetery. While that does make things more hectic – especially when trying to camp next to friends (Top tip: arrive in convoy if you want to stick together!) – it also creates such a buzzing atmosphere. The plus side is that you’re still within easy walking distance to Hofer and Mercator supermarkets, which is always handy.
Vegan Food at Punk Rock Holiday

One of the things I love most about this festival is the vegan food. The legendary vegan kebabs from Veni Vegi Vici are always a winner – I think I managed to have one every single day. The vegan sushi from Vegashi was another standout this year, super fresh and delicious.

If you’re stocking up outside the festival, Mercator is the place to go for vegan goodies: think vegan mayo, umak, burgers, tofu, tasty Slovenian bread, and of course, Lasko radlers (the ultimate refreshing drink for festival days!).
Festival Vibes
The unique thing about Punk Rock Holiday is how laid-back the days feel. The main stage doesn’t kick off until later in the afternoon, which leaves you with the entire day to float down the Soča River on your inflatable of choice. Every year, we try to find the perfect float. This year I attempted to bring back my trusty blue unicorn, but sadly she popped – RIP unicorn. A reminder though: please take your inflatables home and recycle them. It’s such a shame to see how many get discarded at the Beach Stage.

I also finally made it to the morning yoga classes on the beach this year. I’d been too lazy in previous years, but wow – I’m so glad I joined. It’s pay-what-you-feel, led by an amazing instructor, and honestly feels like punk rock yoga – fun, relaxed and set against the most peaceful river views.

The Music
And of course, the music! What makes Punk Rock Holiday stand out is the non-threatening, friendly atmosphere where everyone looks out for one another. The stage diving is always fun to watch and adds to the electric energy. My highlights this year were Less Than Jake, Mad Caddies and Flogging Molly – pure festival joy. I also loved spending time at the American Socks Acoustic Stage for a more chilled vibe.
Why You Should Go
If you’re looking for a summer festival that’s more than just music, Punk Rock Holiday is the one. The mix of mountain scenery, river fun, incredible vegan food, and positive vibes makes it a truly unique experience. Even if punk rock isn’t your thing, the atmosphere and location are reason enough to go. There really is something here for everyone.

So, if you’re planning your 2026 summer already – make sure Punk Rock Holiday is on your list. Trust me, you won’t regret it.
